This dossier analyses the characteristics of the population of Catalans residing abroad, such as what the main host countries are or what areas of the Territorial Plan these Catalans come from. The study also features different demographic indicators and how these vary depending on the geographical area of residence. Finally, it includes data on the evolution of Catalans residing abroad, from 2009 to 2017.

The published data makes reference to Catalans residing abroad, that is, the population of Spanish nationals residing abroad who declare that the last municipality where they were registered was Catalonia.

The information is take from the Register of Spaniards residing abroad, which is an administrative record consisting of the persons of Spanish nationality who normally live abroad (regardless of whether they have dual nationality or not) and that the last municipality where they were registered was one which is found in Catalonia.
